Civil Air Patrol Helps Canton Charter School Feed the Children

When the state last month ordered all schools to close to stop the spread of the coronavirus, the staff at Beacon Academy knew they wanted to keep supplying daily meals to the school’s nearly 230 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
“Beacon takes whole child approach and we know they count on those meals,” Principal Karla Robinson said. “My first thought (when the state closed schools) was that we have to keep the meals coming out.”
The charter school at 1379 Garfield Ave. SW in Canton worked out a new arrangement with its food vendor to provide five days’ worth of meals to the students each Tuesday. The school also received large food donations from First Christian Church and St. Michael the Archangel Church.
